A Better Storyteller, Now a Teacher: The Báb and Bahá’u’lláh: Two Lives, One Story 2017

A working mother who lives in Texas, USA, with her two children, took The Báb and Bahá’u’lláh: Two Lives, One Story 2017 (faculty, Druzelle Cederquist, Ed DiLiberto) with two goals in mind: one, to learn more about how the Twin Manifestations of the Bahá’í Faith handled their hardships and difficulties, and, two, to learn stories from Bahá’í history that she could share with her children. How did she fare in the course? Read what she has to say. —THE EDITORS

Two Goals Accomplished. For my first goal, I took note of the various ways that the Báb, Bahá’u’lláh, and the Holy Family suffered. It was enlightening to learn how they handled their hardships and difficulties, and I am trying to apply the lessons to my own life.

The Story of Baha'u'llah: Promised One of All ReligionsFor my second goal, I have been sharing stories from Druzelle Cederquist’s book The Story of Baha’u’llah: Promised One of All Religions during my children’s bedtime. They have been particularly interested in the Battle of Fort Tabarsí, the Síyáh-Chál, and Mírzá Yahyá. One of the things I appreciate about Druzelle’s book is the way she puts Bahá’í history into context and explains what was happening in other parts of the world during the time of the Báb and Bahá’u’lláh. I also appreciate the way she explains the Islamic and Persian traditions. The videos were great, and the questions for reflection helped guide my reading. The course was well-thought out.

New Skills and New Attitudes. I feel more confident sharing stories about the Báb and Bahá’u’lláh. The course has helped me feel closer to the Báb and Bahá’u’lláh and has deepened my gratitude for being a Bahá’í.

Applying What I Learned. Because I feel more confident about my knowledge of the Báb and Bahá’u’lláh from the course, I recently began teaching children’s classes at the Bahá’í Center. We are studying the history of the Báb and Bahá’u’lláh and also discussing how to apply the Faith to our daily lives.
