Blogs and Websites about `Abdu’l-Baha’s Luminous Journeys, 1911-13
Anne Gordon Perry, a Wilmette Institute faculty member, is working on a film called Luminous Journey: `Abdu’l-Baha in America, 1912. The film, being shot in high definition, has an anticipated release date of Spring 2012. Perry is a faculty member for two upcoming Wilmette Institute courses about `Abdu’l-Baha: `Abdu’l-Baha: His Life and Ministry, starting December 1, and `Abdu’l-Baha in America, starting April 1, 2012.
To watch Perry and her coworkers in the process of creating the film about `Abdu’l-Baha’s visit to the United States and Canada in 1912, visit her blog http://www.film-abdul-baha-in-america.blogspot.com. With beautiful color photographs, accompanied by brief text, the blog contains on-site and behind-the-scenes shots of Baha’is in costume standing in for early Baha’is and for others who met `Abdu’l-Baha. Photographs also show Tim Perry, the film’s director, at work in locations in Washington, D.C., and in Chicago, including Jane Addams’ Hull House and Lincoln Park. Look closely, and you may see people you know, including at least one member of the U.S. National Spiritual Assembly. Perry is continuing to add to the story of creating the film as she films in other places visited by `Abdu’l-Baha in 1912.
To preview a short clip from the forthcoming film Luminous Journey, visit the film’s website at http://www.luminousjourney.org/Luminous_Journey_-_Abdul-Baha_in_America_-_1912/Home.html), where you will see scenes filmed in Baltimore. The site also includes information about Anne Perry, the film’s co-producer and writer, and Tim Perry, the co-producer and director.
Perry is also writing a second blog about the forthcoming centenary of `Abdu’l-Baha’s visit to North America. It is entitled `Abdu’l-Baha’s Journey in America: Thoughts in Preparation for the 2012 Centenary. It can be found at http://www.master-in-america.blogspot.com/). The blog contains passages from Mahmud’s diary for almost each day of the trip and Perry’s comments thereon.
Finally, another blog to follow is The Journey West: `Abdu’l-Baha’s Travels, Europe & North America, 1911-1913. This blog, found at http://www.thejourneywest.org/, reflects on many of the subjects `Abdu’l-Baha addressed during His travels to Europe and North America. If you enjoy listening to podcasts, each of the articles online is available with description, commentary, music, and sound effects, much like a radio program. You can listen to them on the website or as an automatic download to your music player or phone via iTunes.
