Two Learners Enchanted with Bahá’u’lláh’s Early Mystic Writings and the Institute

Two learners in the Wilmette Institute course Bahá’u’lláh’s Early Mystic Writings 2017 (faculty, Christopher Buck, Necati Alkan) have written to share how much the course meant to them and how much they enjoy the Wilmette Institute.

Natalie Kahn. First is Natalie Kahn, who lives in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, USA. On signing up for the course, she wrote this: “I bravely chose this course because it is one that I would ordinarily avoid . . . all the more reason to challenge myself. But I’m not doing this alone. A friend agreed to get on board with me to create a small study group. Metaphors, symbols, metaphysics, esoteric traditions stump me. And all celestial inspirations for the most part pass me by, leaving me with a myriad of daunting questions. So I’m bracing myself for quite the ride in new dimensions of understanding— if I’m able to mount that steed, stay with the course, and not get thrown off by mental blocks.” After the course ended, Natalie wrote this:

Your service to advance knowledge and develop spiritual perception for all individuals at varying levels of intellectual capacities through the Wilmette Institute has swept me up into the heart of Bahá’í learning. Nothing compares to these group learning opportunities.

More specifically, the Bahá’u’lláh’s Early Mystic Writings impacted me to the core followed by bolstering my ability to search more deeply with the aid of the provided auxiliary readings and enlightening explanations. It was an amazing course. Its effects spurred me to invite others to return to the mystic writings. I received enthusiastic replies to my invitation.

Already I have shared my upgraded knowledge on the Ark and the covenant for my Ruhi Book 8 group. The course has fueled my enthusiasm, and I hope to put it to good use with thoughtful planning to include an agenda similar to the way the course unfolded.  Each unit played a strategic role in opening my eyes to mystical truths.

Perjeah Dhevun. Second is Perjeah Dhevun, a resident of Escondido, California, USA, who has taken six courses since 2011 and has run out of adjectives to share feelings about the Wilmette Institute:

I LOVE your courses! Although I’m behind, I’m still studying courses I signed up for that are ever so interesting, enlightening, and fun. They help me tie lots of concepts from various “twigs” and “branches” of human learning to the Bahá’í Faith—or rather, use the Faith as the yardstick to studying these various concepts, such as philosophy and Islam, deepening my understanding of Bahá’u’lláh’s Early Mystic Writings, and more. It is so interesting to read participant comments and questions, bringing up things I would have never thought of. Wow! I am trying to implement some of what I gain from these courses into my life, institute course, devotions, and so on. I am praying more now for teaching opportunities. I just can’t say enough about the Wilmette Institute!
